Parmigiano Reggiano

Parmigiano Reggiano is a hard cheese belonging to the Grana family, protected by the DOP designation. It is produced with raw cow's milk, partially skimmed by surfacing, without the addition of additives.

Its production is limited to the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Parma and Bologna on the left of the Reno river, and Mantua on the right of the Po.

With approximately 3.8 million forms produced each year, it is the third Italian cheese by production volume, after Grana Padano and Gorgonzola.

In 2023, it was recognized as "best cheese in the world" by the Taste Atlas ranking.
